All French Kings, from Charles VII to François I, stayed in the Château d'Amboise.
They supervised the construction and the embellishment of this first royal edifice of the Renaissance.
One the most famous host of the young King François I was Leonardo da Vinci, who spent the last three years of his life in Amboise. He is said to be buried in the late-Gothic Chapelle St-Hubert.
The Castle has belonged to Kings or their families from the 15th century.
Entirely furnished, it is open to visitors with an explanatory leaflet or with a guide
Some of the guard rooms and state rooms in the Logis du Roi are open to visitors.
A "salon Louis-Philippe" has been included in the visit since 1998.
