Figeac is a very ancient estate. Its history goes back at least as far as the 2nd century. During this Gallo-roman period the Figeacus family gave their name to the "villa" they established on this site.
The present château, whose main building dates from the late 18th century, incorporates vestiges of the Middle Ages and Renaissance thus attesting to its long history.
Figeac first came into the hands of its present owners, the Manoncourt family, in 1892. Thierry Manoncourt (later helped by his wife, Marie-France) began restructuring the vineyards in 1947 in order to return Figeac to its rightful position as one of the great châteaux of Bordeaux. His daughter, Laure, and his son-in-law, Count Eric d'Aramon, now help manage the estate, thus perpetuating the family tradition.
The site has been continually inhabited as proved by vestiges: a water-supply system dating from the Gallo-Roman period, foundations of buildings from the Middle Ages with defensive walls, and the remains of a Renaissance chateau reflected in the present-day chateau's great door and tower.
