Presentation

The old fortress dominating the Loir was transformed in the Renaissance into a country retreat by Jean de Daillon, LouisXI's chamberlain. Ceaselessly embellished over the centuries, the Chateau du Lude is a remarkable illustration of the way French architecture has envolved.

In the course of its history, it has given hospitality to Gilles de Rais, Henri IV, Louis XIII and the Marquise de Sévigné.

Lived in by the same family for the past 200 years, the Chateau du Lude, in its interior arrangement and the development of its gardens, is a living example of the historic French heritage still in private hands.
