Presentation
The history of the Château de Maintenon, listed as Historical Monument, dates back to the 13th century. On February 27th 1674, Françoise d'Aubigné, the widow of the poet Scarron and future Marquise de Maintenon, bought the domain; she enlarged and embellished both the Château and its perspective, before she became, in 1684, the secret wife of Louis XIV.
En 1698, she gave Maintenon to her niece, on the occasion of her marriage to the Duc d'Ayen, son of the Duc de Noailles, Marshal of France.
Since then, Maintenon remained, without interruption, in the Noailles family, who gave it in 1981, to the "Fondation of the Château de Maintenon".
The Fondation has for partner the Banque Transatlantique (Groupe CIC) whith whom she shares common values: to preserve, develop and secure the perenniality of estates.
