Presentation

Build in the Middle-Ages, the Château of Blois came to the peak of its glory at the Renaissance. When Louis XII succeeded Charles VIII to the throne in 1498, he moved his Royal residence from Amboise to Blois.
The king and his wife Anne de Bretagne, made considerable improvements: construction of a new wing and installation of the gardens and terraces.

When François Ist took up residence in Blois he reconstructed the wing
that is now named for him, the most beautiful part of the building.

In 1634, Gaston d'Orléans, brother of Louis XIII, came to live at the Château in Blois and asked Mansart to make more improvements. From 1635 to 1638, the main part of the Chateau was rebuilt, but work was stopped due to lack of funds.
