Presentation

The Château du Clos de Vougeot, Seat of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin is deservedly considered the main attraction of the "Côte de Nuits". This magnificent edifice is visible proof of the creation and exploitation of a vineyard in the Middle Ages.

In the early twelfth century, the monks of Cîtteaux transformed their vineyard into a sort of model domain by careful selection of the wines and by continual improvement of their methods of purning and and cultivation. It was soon necessary for their vast domain to build buildings of exploitation.
Classified Historic Monument since 1949, the"Château du Clos de Vougeot" is today the leader of "la Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin".
